Twins: Transformable Coffee/Lounge Chairs

The Twins coffee table/lounge chairs, designed by Claudio Sibille, is a unique and innovative piece of furniture that combines functionality, style, and sustainability. Inspired by the designer's wife's pregnancy, this design offers a practical solution for unexpected guests without compromising on aesthetics.

The main feature of the Twins design is its transformable nature. The coffee table, seemingly ordinary at first glance, conceals two hidden individual lounge chairs within its hollow structure. The chairs can be easily extracted through the removable lateral doors of the table. During the extraction process, the legs of the chairs fold in a closed position, allowing them to fit inside the coffee table.

What sets the Twins design apart is its contemporary and sleek appearance. The use of ash wood and white fabric creates a clean and modern look that complements any interior style. The design also prioritizes sustainability, using eco-friendly materials and minimal hardware.

Functionality is at the core of the Twins design. The user has the flexibility to choose whether to take out one or both seats, depending on their needs. When the chairs are in use, the table provides ample storage space for magazines, books, laptops, and other items.

The transformation process is simple and intuitive. The lateral surfaces of the table, which appear to be mere decorative elements, are actually lids that can be easily pulled out to reveal the chairs. Once the chairs are extracted, the lids are put back on, completing the transformation.

The Twins coffee table/lounge chairs project was realized in Montevideo, Uruguay, starting in November 2014 and finishing in December 2014. Throughout the design process, Claudio Sibille faced the challenge of maintaining the coffee table's dimensions while maximizing the size of the chairs.

This innovative design has received recognition in the form of the Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category. This prestigious award is a testament to the exceptional creativity, technical expertise, and innovation demonstrated by the Twins design.
